Later this year, Formula One is going all Super Mario Kart in a brand new arcade game that promises post-pub brilliance. Welcome to F1 Race Stars.
It's scheduled to hit stores in November and was created by the same minds behind the official F1 games. In this, cartoonised versions of Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and chums go racing on circuits such as Silverstone, Monaco and the upcoming Circuit of Americas in Texas.
Naturally, these circuits have been rendered in ‘fantastical' visuals (think Toy Story), and feature rather different challenges than their real counterparts. Like loop-the-loops and hairpins reaching up into the sky. Bernie, take note.
It also offers players the chance to collect power-ups which can then be ‘deployed', and it offers split-screen racing for up to four people, along with a ‘career' mode. It'll be available for Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and PC.
So far, just six drivers from the 2012 season have been rendered, but, says Chris Gray, the game's senior producer, "we're really excited to bring the whole cast of F1 into a fun new world of racing. We've really let our art and design teams off the leash to bring F1 stars' personalities alive in a new way."
That sounds ominous. Still, have a gander at the preview trailer below and let us know if you think this could be a stroke of genius. And also let us know what super powers you think each driver should have...
